The Secretary of State for Transport, Local Government and the Regions, in exercise of the power conferred upon him by section 1(11) of the Local Government (Overseas Assistance) Act 1993[
1] and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:
Citation, commencement and application
1.
- (1) This Order may be cited as the Local Government Overseas Assistance (London Pensions Fund Authority) Order 2001 and shall come into force on 5th December 2001.
(2) This Order does not extend to Scotland.
Amendment to the Local Government (Overseas Assistance) Act 1993
2.
In section 1 of the Local Government (Overseas Assistance) Act 1993 (power to provide advice and assistance) in subsection (10) (bodies which are local authorities), after paragraph (f) (the Broads Authority) there shall be inserted -
"
(ff) the London Pensions Fund Authority;"[2].

EXPLANATORY NOTE
(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order amends section 1(10) of the Local Government (Overseas Assistance Act) 1993 to provide that the London Pensions Fund Authority is a local authority for the purposes of that Act. Accordingly, it may, subject to the restrictions imposed by the Act, provide advice and assistance as respects any matter in which it has skill and experience to a body engaged outside the United Kingdom in the carrying on of any of the activities of local government.
The London Pensions Fund Authority was established by the London Government Reorganisation (Pensions etc.) Order 1989 (S.I. 1989/1815) to assume the functions of the London Residuary Body in relation to the superannuation fund maintained by it.
