The Secretary of State for Transport, Local Government and the Regions makes this Order in exercise of powers conferred by section 10 of the Highways Act 1980[
1] and now vested in him[
2], and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf:
1.
This Order may be cited as the A596 Trunk Road (Northside Junction, Workington) (Detrunking) Order 2001 and shall come into force on 31st October 2001.
2.
In this Order -
(i) "the plan"

means the plan numbered HA 10/PS/285 and marked "The A596 Trunk Road (Northside Junction, Workington) (Detrunking) Order 2001", signed by the authority of the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions and deposited at the DETR Deposit Document Service, Floor 13, Ashdown House, St. Leonards-on-Sea TN37 3GA. |
(ii) "the new trunk road"

means the new highway which the Secretary of State proposes to construct referred to in article 2 of the A596 Trunk Road (Northside Junction, Workington) Order 2001[3]; |
(iii) "the trunk road"
|
means the A596 Lillyhall-Workington-Maryport-Aspatria-Wigton-Thursby Trunk Road (A596) |
3.
The lengths of the trunk road described in the Schedule to this Order shall cease to be a trunk road from the date on which the Secretary of State notifies Cumbria County Council that the new trunk road is open for traffic.

THE SCHEDULE
LENGTH OF THE TRUNK ROAD CEASING TO BE A TRUNK ROAD
The lengths of the trunk road ceasing to be trunk road are situated between the starting and termination points of the route of the new trunk road and are shown by broad black dashes on the plan marked A to B and C to D
A to B |
From a point 85 metres north of the existing junction with the A597 New Bridge Road to a distance of 76 metres southwards |
C to D |
From a point 40 metres south east of the centre of the New Bridge Northside to a distance of 199 metres eastwards |
