MR JUSTICE LINDSAY (PRESIDENT):
- This is a hearing, by way of a preliminary hearing, of the appeal of Dr S Deman, in the matter Deman against the Association of University Teachers. The decision of Mr P R K Menon at London North sitting with two members was a unanimous decision, namely that the Applicant's claim of race discrimination and victimisation under the Race Relations Act 1976 against all Respondent's failed and all those complaints were dismissed.
- We were all set to hear Dr Deman today but very recently there have been communications received from Jennifer Mayo Deman, Dr Deman's wife, and a medical certificate has been received. The current position appears to be that Mr Deman cannot attend today because of illness, namely conjunctivitis and upper respiratory infection, and his wife, on his behalf, has requested an adjournment. We would seem to us to be proper to grant that adjournment. We simply adjourn the matter generally to be restored as early as is practicable and there is nothing more to say on the point today.
