HARBOURS ACT 1814


TABLE OF PROVISIONS

           Long Title

   11.     Penalty on persons casting ballast, rubbish, &c. into harbours or
           navigable rivers, &c.
   12.     Manner in which ships may unlade ballast, rubbish, &c.
   13.     Ballast, &c. to be cast on shore from the side of the ship
           nearest to the land.
   14.     Penalty on persons taking ballast or shingle from the shore of
           harbours, when prohibited by order of the Admiralty.
   15.     Tarpaulins to be used in taking in and discharging ballast, under
           penalty of #5.
   16.     Power to dispense in certain cases with the foregoing provisions as
           to ballast.
   21.     Recovery and application of penalties.
   22.     Commissioners of the navy and justices of the peace may execute
           this Act beyond the limits of their jurisdiction.
   26.     Appeal to quarter sessions.
   28.     Saving as to rights of corporations.
   1.      Directors may make bye laws for regulating canals and the passage
           of vessels thereon, &c.;
   2.      The continuance of any offence against bye laws shall constitute a
           separate offence.
   3.      Power to seize and detain vessels and goods by way of distress.
   4.      No rafts or timber not on board ship to be navigated on canals
           without permission of directors, under pain of forfeiture.
   5.      Ship, &c. damaging any canal or found sunk therein may be detained
           with goods on board until expences of raising, &c. and repairing
           damages shall be paid;
   6.      Ship detained may be sold under warrant of a justice, by a
           constable without an auctioneer's licence.
   7.      Where no boundary to a canal, directors, &c. may fence in and
           inclose banks;
   9.      Swine found on canal banks may be seized, killed, or carried away,
           if not under the care of a driver, or with rings in their noses.
