This Statutory Instrument has been made in consequence of a defect in S.I. 2016/1093 and is being issued free of charge to all known recipients of that Statutory Instrument.

The Secretary of State, who is a Minister designated(1) for the purposes of section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972(2) in relation to measures relating to lifts and safety components for use in lifts, makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by section 2(2) of that Act.
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Lifts (Amendment) Regulations 2016 and come into force on 8th December 2016.
2. In regulation 3(2)(a) of the Lifts Regulations 2016(3), for "on or after" substitute "before".

These Regulations amend the Lifts Regulations 2016 (S.I. 2016/1093) to make clear that those Regulations apply to lifts and safety components for lifts placed on the market on or after 8th December 2016 (the commencement date for those Regulations), but do not apply to lifts and safety components for lifts placed on the market before that date.
