The Secretary of State for Education makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 551 and 569(4) of the Education Act 1996(1):
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Education (School Day and School Year) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2011 and come into force on 25th February 2011.
2.-(1) These Regulations amend the Education (School Day and School Year) (England) Regulations 1999(2) as follows.
(2) In paragraph (6) of regulation 3 after "In relation to the" insert "2010-2011 school year and the".

These Regulations amend the Education (School Day and School Year) (England) Regulations 1999.
Regulation 3(6) is amended to reduce the minimum number of sessions which must be held in the school year 2010-2011 from 380 to 378.
An impact assessment has not been produced for this instrument as no impact on the private or voluntary sectors is foreseen. There should also be no impact on the public sector.
1996 c. 56. For the definition of "regulations" see section 579(1) of that Act. Section 551(1A) was substituted by paragraph 39 of Schedule 7 to the Education Act 1997 (c. 44). Section 551(2) was amended by paragraphs 166(a) and 166(b) of Schedule 30, and Schedule 31, to the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 (c. 31) and by S.I. 2010/1158.
S.I. 1999/3181 was amended by S.I. 2010/604, which came into force on 1st April 2010. There are other amending regulations which are not relevant to these Regulations.
