The length of the trunk road ceasing to be a trunk road is situated between the eastern end of the slip road where it meets the roundabout joining the A600 and the A421 westbound and terminating after 130 metres on the A421, within the Borough of Bedford and shown by broad black dashes on the plan numbered HA/10/NOD/003, marked "The A421 Trunk Road (A421/A600 Junction Westbound On Slip Road) Detrunking Order 2009" signed by authority of the Secretary of State for Transport, Information Management Division, Ashdown House, Sedlescombe Road North, St Leonards On Sea, East Sussex TN37 7GA.
(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order reclassifies a new dedicated westbound on slip road at the A421/A600 junction at Shortstown, Bedford. The new dedicated on slip road will merge with the existing on slip road at a point approximately 120 metres from the junction roundabout. Once constructed, a 130 metre section of the widened on slip road from the roundabout at the eastern end of the westbound on slip road will be detrunked and responsibility for it will pass to the local highway authority.
The dedicated westbound on slip road is proposed to enable development of land on part of the old RAF Cardington site by increasing capacity at this junction.
