6th March 2008
(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order amends the Police and Justice Act 2006 (Commencement No. 1, Transitional and Saving Provisions) Order 2006. That Order together with the Police and Justice Act 2006 (Supplementary and Transitional Provisions) Order 2006 made saving and transitional provisions related to the bringing into force of paragraphs 1 to 6 of Schedule 2 to the Police and Justice Act 2006 that introduced a new regime for the membership of police authorities.
The earlier orders ensured that the existing provisions of the Police Act 1996 concerning police authority membership would continue until 1st April 2008 for police authorities other than the Metropolitan Police Authority and until 3rd July 2008 for the Metropolitan Police Authority. This Order and an Order amending the Police and Justice Act 2006 (Supplementary and Transitional Provisions) Order 2006 amend those transitional and savings provisions so that the previous provisions continue to apply to appointments that take effect before 1st October 2008.
