SOCIAL SECURITY

The Social Security Act 1989 (Commencement No. 6) Order 2007

  Made 16th August 2007 

The Secretary of State for Work and Pensions makes the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred by section 33(2) of the Social Security Act 1989[1].

Citation and interpretation
     1. —(1) This Order may be cited as the Social Security Act 1989 (Commencement No. 6) Order 2007.

    (2) In this Order "the Act" means the Social Security Act 1989.

Appointed day
    
2. The day appointed for the coming into force of—

    (a) section 23 of the Act (equal treatment for men and women) in so far as it relates to the provisions specified in this Order; and

    (b) paragraph 3 of Schedule 5 to the Act (non-compliance: compulsory levelling up) (except sub-paragraph (2)) for the purposes of—

      (i) paragraph 5A[2] of that Schedule (unfair paternity leave provisions); and

      (ii) paragraph 5B of that Schedule (unfair adoption leave provisions),

is 24th August 2007.

    EXPLANATORY NOTE

    (This note is not part of the Order)


    This Order provides for the coming into force of paragraph 3 of Schedule 5 to the Social Security Act 1989 (non compliance: compulsory levelling up) in respect of paragraphs 5A and 5B of that Schedule and of Section 23 of that Act (equal treatment of men and women) in so far as it relates to those provisions.
