EXPLANATORY NOTE
(This note is not part of the Regulations)
These Regulations amend the Merchant Shipping (Fees) Regulations 2006 by replacing the schedule of fees for examinations for and the issue of boatmasters' licences (and related matters) under the Merchant Shipping (Local Passenger Vessels) (Masters' Licences and Hours, Manning and Training) Regulations 1993 (S.I. 1993/1213, the "1993 Regulations") with fees for similar functions carried out under the Merchant Shipping (Inland Waterway and Limited Coastal Voyages) (Boatmasters' Qualifications and Hours of Work) Regulations 2006 (S.I. 2006/3223, the "2006 Regulations").
The fees for functions under the 2006 Regulations remain unchanged from fees for the equivalent functions under the 1993 Regulations. Thus, for example:
— the fees for the two parts of the examination for a boatmaster's licence whether taken on one occasion or separately remain the same;
— the fees for the issue and revalidation of a boatmaster's licence or certificate are the same as the fees for the issue and revalidation of a licence under the 1993 Regulations;
— a supplementary licence is issued to the holder of a Rhine navigation licence for the same purpose as a relevant local knowledge endorsement on a boatmaster's licence and the fees are the same.
No Regulatory Impact Assessment has been prepared in connection with these Regulations as they are not considered to have any impact on the costs or savings of business or the voluntary or public sectors.
