The Secretary of State makes the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 1(1) and 18(2) of the Safety of Sports Grounds Act 1975[
1]. In accordance with section 18(4) of that Act she has consulted with such persons as appear to her requisite.
Citation and commencement
1.
This Order may be cited as the Safety of Sports Grounds (Designation) (No. 2) Order 2006 and shall come into force on 17th July 2006.
Designation
2.
The sports grounds specified in Schedule 1 (being sports grounds which in the opinion of the Secretary of State have accommodation for more than 10,000 spectators) are designated as sports grounds requiring safety certificates under the Safety of Sports Grounds Act 1975.
3.
The sports ground specified in Schedule 2 (being a sports ground in England at which association football matches are played, which is occupied by a club which is a member of the Football League Limited or the Football Association Premier League Limited, and which in the opinion of the Secretary of State has accommodation for more than 5,000 spectators) is designated as a sports ground requiring a safety certificate under the Safety of Sports Grounds Act 1975.
Amendment to the Safety of Sports Grounds (Designation) Order 1986
4.
In Schedule 1 to the Safety of Sports Grounds (Designation) Order 1986[
2], the entry in respect of St. Helen's Ground shall be omitted.

EXPLANATORY NOTE
(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order designates the Sixways Stadium in Worcester, occupied by Worcester Rugby Football Club; Sophia Gardens in Cardiff, occupied by Glamorgan County Cricket Club; and the Emirates Stadium in London, occupied by Arsenal Football Club; as sports grounds requiring safety certificates under the Safety of Sports Grounds Act 1975.
This Order also de-designates St. Helen's Ground in Swansea with the effect that it will no longer require a safety certificate under section 1(1) of the Act.
