The Secretary of State for Transport makes this Order in exercise of powers conferred by sections 10 and 41 of the Highways Act 1980[
1] and now vested in him[
2], and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf:
1.
This Order may be cited as the A2 Trunk Road (Pepperhill to Cobham and Slip Roads) Order 2005 and shall come into force on 27th October 2005.
2.
In this Order—
(a) all measurements of distance are measured along the route of the relevant highway;
(b)
(i) "the new main road" means the new highway which the Secretary of State proposes to construct along the route described in Schedule 1 to this Order;
(ii) "the new trunk roads" means the main new road and the slip roads;
(iii) "the plan" means the plan numbered HA 10/MP/026 marked "The A2 Trunk Road (Pepperhill to Cobham and Slip Roads) Order 2005", signed by authority of the Secretary of State for Transport and deposited at ODPM-DfT Records Management Branch, Floor 13 (IMD), Ashdown House, St Leonards on Sea, Hastings, East Sussex TN37 7GA; and
(iv) "the slip roads" means the new highways which the Secretary of State proposes to construct along the routes described in Schedule 2 to this Order and which connect the main new road with other highways or proposed highways at the places stated in that Schedule.
3.
The main new road and the slip roads shall become trunk roads from the date when this Order comes into force.
4.
The centre line of each of the trunk roads is indicated by a heavy black line on the plan.

SCHEDULE 1
ROUTE OF THE NEW MAIN ROAD
The route of the new main road is about 4.12 kilometres in length, from a point about 0.39 kilometres east of the centre line of Pepperhill Junction overbridge on the A2 Trunk Road at Gravesend in the County of Kent, extending in an easterly direction to a point about 0.21 kilometres east of the centre line of Marling Cross Junction overbridge at Gravesend in the County of Kent.
SCHEDULE 2
ROUTES OF THE SLIP ROADS
(1) Junction with the A2260 Hall Road at Pepperhill Junction
(a) A route from the A2260 Hall Road to the eastbound carriageway of the A2 Trunk Road at Gravesend in the County of Kent (the slip road along the route being given the number 1 on the plan), and
(b) A route from the westbound carriageway of the main new trunk road to the A2260 Hall Road at Gravesend in the County of Kent (the slip road along the route being given the number 2 on the plan), and
(2) Junction with the A227 Wrotham Road at Tollgate Junction
(a) Two routes to connect the eastbound carriageway of the main new road with a roundabout that the Secretary of State proposes to construct as part of the A227 Wrotham Road at Gravesend in the County of Kent (the slip roads along these routes being respectively given the numbers 3 and 5 on the plan), and
(b) Two routes to connect the westbound carriageway of the main new road with a roundabout that the Secretary of State proposes to construct as part of the A227 Wrotham Road at Gravesend in the County of Kent (the slip roads along these routes being respectively given the numbers 4 and 6 on the plan), and
(3) Junction with Henhurst Road at Marling Cross Junction to Cobham Services
(a) A route from the eastbound carriageway of the new main road to a new roundabout that the Secretary of State proposes to construct as part of Henhurst Road at Gravesend in the County of Kent (the slip road along this route being given the number 7 on the plan),
(b) A route from a new roundabout which the Secretary of State proposes to construct as part of Henhurst Road to the westbound carriageway of the new main road at Gravesend in the County of Kent (the slip road along this route being given the number 8 on the plan),
(c) A route from a new roundabout which the Secretary of State proposes to construct as part of Henhurst Road to the eastbound carriageway of the new main road at Gravesend in the County of Kent (the slip road along this route being given the number 9 on the plan),
(d) A route from the westbound carriageway of the new main road to a new roundabout that the Secretary of State proposes to construct as part of Henhurst Road at Gravesend in the County of Kent (the slip road along this route being given the number 10 on the plan), and
(e) A route from the westbound carriageway of the new main road to the existing Petrol Garage located about 0.35 kilometres west of Thong Lane overbridge at Gravesend in the County of Kent (the slip road along this route being given the number 11 on the plan).
