CLERK OF THE CROWN IN CHANCERY

The Crown Office Fees Order 2003

  Made 14th January 2003 
  Coming into force 17th February 2003 

The Lord Chancellor, in exercise of the power conferred upon him by section 9 of the Great Seal (Offices) Act 1874[1], and with the concurrence of the Treasury, makes the following Order: - 

     1. This Order may be cited as the Crown Office Fees Order 2003, and shall come into force on 17th February 2003.

    
2. The fees set out in column 2 of the Schedule to this Order shall be taken in the office of the Clerk of the Crown in Chancery in respect of the matters described in column 1.

    
3. The Crown Office Fees Order 1999[2] is revoked.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)


This Order revokes and replaces the Crown Office Fees Order 1999. The following fees taken in the office of the Clerk of the Crown in Chancery are increased:

    Letters Patent for the grant of title of City or of Lord Mayor, from £1,250 to £1,435

    Letters Patent for a Charter of Incorporation or Supplemental Charter, from £315 to £410

    Letters Patent for the appointment of Heralds, from £175 to £180

    Letters Patent for appointment as Queen's Counsel, from £150 to £165.

The fee for the determination of an abeyance of a Barony, for which a Writ of Summons is no longer required, is decreased from £150 to £130.

For the first time, fees are taken for the issue of Letters Patent promulgating amendments to Canon law, and for certificates confirming appointment as Queen's Counsel.
