The Secretary of State, being satisfied that the Local Government Commission for England[
1] has no further functions to perform, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by sections 18(6) and 156(5)(a) of the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000[
2] hereby makes the following Order:
Citation and commencement
1.
This Order may be cited as the Local Government Commission for England (Winding-up) Order 2002 and shall come into force on 1st August 2002.
Winding up
2.
The Secretary of State hereby directs that the Local Government Commission for England shall cease to exist forthwith.
Consequential amendments and repeals
3.
The provisions specified in the third column of the table in the Schedule to this Order are hereby repealed.

EXPLANATORY NOTE
(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order provides for the cessation of the Local Government Commission for England at the start of the day on 1st August 2002. The functions of the Commission were transferred to the Electoral Commission on 1st April 2002 by virtue of the Local Government Commission for England (Transfer of Functions) Order 2001 (S.I. 2001/3962). Provision is also made in article 3 and the Schedule for repeals of references in legislation to the Commission.
