In exercise of the powers conferred on the Secretary of State by section 4(2) of the Education Act 1994(1), the Secretary of State for Education and Employment hereby makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Education (Funding for Teacher Training) Designation Order 2000 and shall come into force on 7th February 2000.
2. The following are hereby designated as institutions eligible for funding under Part I of the Education Act 1994-“
(a)Barking and Dagenham London Borough Council;
(b)Birmingham City Council;
(c)Buckinghamshire County Council;
(d)Bury Metropolitan Borough Council;
(e)Camden London Borough Council;
(f)Cheshire County Council;
(g)Cornwall County Council;
(h)Dorset County Council;
(i)Dyslexia Institute Limited, a charitable company limited by guarantee having the registered charity number 268502;
(j)East Sussex County Council;
(k)Haringey London Borough Council;
(l)Kensington and Chelsea London Borough Council;
(m)Kirklees Metropolitan Borough Council;
(n)Manchester City Council;
(o)Newham London Borough Council;
(p)Oxfordshire County Council;
(q)Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council;
(r)Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council;
(s)Southwark London Borough Council;
(t)Staffordshire County Council;
(u)Thurrock Borough Council; and
(v)West Sussex County Council.

This Order designates Barking and Dagenham London Borough Council, Birmingham City Council, Buckinghamshire County Council, Bury Metropolitan Borough Council, Camden London Borough Council, Cheshire County Council, Cornwall County Council, Dorset County Council, Dyslexia Institute Limited, a charitable company limited by guarantee having the registered charity number 268502, East Sussex County Council, Haringey London Borough Council, Kensington and Chelsea London Borough Council, Kirklees Metropolitan Borough Council, Manchester City Council, Newham London Borough Council, Oxfordshire County Council, Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council, Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council, Southwark London Borough Council, Staffordshire County Council, Thurrock Borough Council, and West Sussex County Council as institutions eligible for funding under Part I of the Education Act 1994.
As a result of this Order, the Teacher Training Agency may make grants, loans or other payments in respect of expenditure incurred or to be incurred by the designated institutions for the purposes of the provision of teacher training and the provision of facilities, and the carrying on of other activities, which the institution considers it necessary or desirable to provide or carry on for the purpose of or in connection with the provision of teacher training.
