The Secretary of State for Health, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 44(3) of the Chiropractors Act 1994(1), hereby makes the following Order:
1.-(1) This Order may be cited as the Chiropractors Act 1994 (Commencement No. 4) Order 2000.
(2) In this Order, "the Act" means the Chiropractors Act 1994.
2. 7th September 2000 is the day appointed for the coming into force of each provision of the Act specified in the first column of the Schedule to this Order (which relate to the matters mentioned in the second column of the Schedule) and, save as otherwise provided in the first column of the Schedule, those provisions shall come into force on that day for all purposes.

This Order brings into force on 7th September 2000 the following provisions of the Chiropractors Act 1994-
section 1(2), under which the Council has a duty to develop, promote and regulate the profession of chiropractic; and section 1(3), under which the Council shall have such other functions as are conferred on it by the Act (both subsections are already partially in force and are further brought into force in relation to the other provisions brought into force by this Order);
section 1(5), (6), (7) and (9) (so far as not already in force) which relate to the statutory committees of the Council;
sections 7 (in part), 8 (in part), 10 (so far as not already in force), 20 to 26, 30, 31 and 32 (in part) all of which relate to the role of the statutory committees or the Registrar in respect of professional conduct and fitness to practise, and connected appeals, including (in section 32) the creation of an offence for breach of a requirement to attend a hearing and give evidence; and section 35(3) which provides for related Orders in Council to be subject to Parliamentary procedures.
The Order also brings into force sections 27 and 28 which provide for the appointment of legal and medical assessors respectively; section 43 in respect of the definition of "interim suspension order"; and Schedule 1, Part II, paragraphs 18 to 23 (so far as not already in force) and paragraphs 24 and 30 to 41, all of which relate to the membership and procedure of the statutory committees.
