The Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions, being a Minister designated(1) for the purposes of section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972(2) for the regulation of the type, description, construction or equipment of vehicles, and of components of vehicles, and in particular any vehicle type approval scheme, in exercise of the powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations:-“
1.-(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Motor Vehicles (EC Type Approval) (Amendment) Regulations 1999 and shall come into force on 14th April 1999.
(2) The Motor Vehicles (EC Type Approval) Regulations 1998(3) shall be amended in accordance with the following provisions of these Regulations.
2. In regulation 15(2)-“
(a)for subparagraph (b), there shall be substituted-“
"(b)regulation 9(2), (3) or (9),";
(b)in subparagraph (d), for the words "regulation 11(10) or (11)" there shall be substituted "regulation 11(11) or (12)".
3.-(1) Schedule 1 shall be amended as follows.
(2) In the Table, in item 2 after the last entry in the third column there shall be inserted-“

(3) In the Table, in item 6 after the entry there shall be inserted in the third and fourth columns-“

These Regulations amend the Motor Vehicles (EC Type Approval) Regulations 1998 (the "1998 Regulations").
Regulation 2 makes some minor drafting amendments to Regulation 15 of the 1998 Regulations.
Regulation 3 inserts references to recent EC Directives in items 2 and 6 in the Table in Schedule 1 to the 1998 Regulations.
