The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by sections 4(1) and 36(4)(b) of the Coroners Act 1988(1), and after the consultation required by section 4(1) of that Act, hereby makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the West Midlands (Coroners' Districts) (Amendment) Order 1999.
2.-(1) This Order shall come into force on 1st September 1999.
(2) This Order shall not have effect in relation to any inquest begun before the day on which it comes into force or to any post-mortem examination which, before that day, a coroner has directed or requested a medical practitioner to make.
3. The existing Sandwell North coroner's district and Sandwell South coroner's district of the County of West Midlands shall be amalgamated to form one coroner's district to be known as the Sandwell coroner's district.
4. The West Midlands (Coroners' Districts) Order 1974(2) shall be amended as follows-“
(a)in article 3, for the word "seven" there shall be substituted the word "six", and
(b)in the Schedule, for the two entries relating to Sandwell North coroner's district and Sandwell South coroner's district there shall be substituted the following entry-“
"Sandwell coroner's district | The district of Sandwell". |

The District of Sandwell was divided into two coroners' districts, Sandwell North and Sandwell South, by the West Midlands (Coroners' Districts) Order 1974. This Order amalgamates these two districts into one coroner's district, to be known as the Sandwell coroner's district.
