Whereas the Secretary of State has granted to Atlantic Telecommunications Limited on 30 December 1997 a licence ("the Licence") under section 7 of the Telecommunications Act 1984(1) ("the Act"), to which section 8 of the Act applies, for the running of the telecommunication systems specified in the Licence ("the Applicable Systems"):
Now, therefore, the Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on her by section 9 of the Act, hereby makes the following Order:-
1. This Order may be cited as the Public Telecommunication System Designation (Atlantic Telecommunications Limited) Order 1998 and shall come into force on 7th April 1998.
2. Each of the Applicable Systems is hereby designated as a public telecommunication system.

The Secretary of State granted to Atlantic Telecommunications Limited a licence on 30 December 1997 under section 7 of the Telecommunications Act 1984 to run the telecommuni cation systems specified in the licence. A copy of the licence was laid before Parliament on 9th March 1998. This Order designates those telecommunication systems as public telecommunica tion systems. Consequently, by virtue of section 9(3) of that Act, Atlantic Telecommunications Limited will be a public telecommunications operator in respect of the telecommunication systems run under that licence when the Order comes into force on 7th April 1998.
