Whereas in pursuance of section 6(4) of the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966(1) the Council of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons has made regulations entitled "The Veterinary Surgeons (Examination of Commonwealth and Foreign Candidates) (Amendment) Regulations 1997" set out in the Schedule to this Order:
And whereas by section 25(1) of the said Act such regulations shall not have effect unless approved by order of the Privy Council:
And whereas by section 25(2) of the said Act any order under the said section 25(1) may be revoked by a subsequent order of the Privy Council:
Now, therefore, Their Lordships, having taken the said regulations into consideration, in exercise of the powers conferred by the said sections 25(1) and (2), do hereby order as follows:-
1. The said regulations are hereby approved.
2. The Veterinary Surgeons (Examination of Commonwealth and Foreign Candidates) (Amendment) Regulations Order of Council 1995(2), which has become spent upon the approval of the regulations approved by this Order, is hereby revoked.
3. This Order may be cited as the Veterinary Surgeons (Examination of Commonwealth and Foreign Candidates) (Amendment) Regulations Order of Council 1998, and shall come into force forthwith.

The Council of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, in exercise of its powers under section 6(4) of the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966, hereby makes the following Regulations:-
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Veterinary Surgeons (Examination of Commonwealth and Foreign Candidates) (Amendment) Regulations 1997.
2. The Veterinary Surgeons (Examination of Commonwealth and Foreign Candidates) (Amendment) Regulations 1967(3) are hereby amended:-
By the deletion of the first sentence of Regulation 9 and the substitution therefor of the following:-
"The fee for sitting the whole of the statutory examination shall be £800 and for sitting any part of the examination taken separately in terms of Regulation 6 of these Regulations shall be £400."
3. The Veterinary Surgeons (Examination of Commonwealth and Foreign Candidates) (Amendment) Regulations 1994(4) are hereby revoked.

The Regulations approved by this Order amend the Veterinary Surgeons (Examination of Commonwealth and Foreign Candidates) Regulations 1967 by further increasing the fees payable by persons holding certain Commonwealth or foreign qualifications in veterinary surgery for sitting the whole or part of the statutory examination of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. (The existing fees were fixed in 1995 and are being increased by 40 per cent.)
