In exercise of the powers conferred on the Secretary of State by section 4(2) of the Education Act 1994(1), the Secretary of State for Education and Employment hereby makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Education (Funding for Teacher Training) Designation Order 1998 and shall come into force on 1st March 1998.
2. The following are hereby designated as institutions eligible for funding under Part 1 of the Education Act 1994:-
(a)Business in the Community.
(b)The Marches Consortium Limited.
(c)Max Gate Consultancy Limited.
(d)Somerset County Council.

This Order designates Business in the Community, the Marches Consortium Limited, Max Gate Consultancy Limited and Somerset County Council ("the Institutions") as institutions eligible for funding under Part 1 of the Education Act 1994.
Business in the Community is a charity; the Marches Consortium Limited is a registered Industrial and Provident Society; and Max Gate Consultancy Limited a private company. Each of these has educational objects.
As a result of this Order, the Teacher Training Agency may make grants, loans or other payments in respect of expenditure incurred or to be incurred by the governing body of each Institution for certain purposes. These are the provision of teacher training and the provision of facilities, and the carrying on of other activities which the governing body considers it necessary or desirable to provide or carry on for the purpose of or in connection with the provision of teacher training.
