The Partnership and Co-operation Agreement between the European Communities and their Member States, of the one part, and the Republic of Armenia, of the other part, signed at Luxembourg on 22nd April 1996(2).
(This note is not part of the Order)
The Order declares the Partnership and Co-operation Agreement between the European Communities and their Member States and the Republic of Armenia, signed on 22nd April 1996, to be a Community Treaty as defined in section l(2) of the European Communities Act 1972. The Agreement establishes a Partnership with the objectives of providing an appropriate framework for political dialogue, supporting Armenia's efforts to consolidate its democracy, to develop its economy and to complete the transition into a market economy, promoting trade, investment and harmonious economic relations and providing a basis for legislative, economic, social, financial, civil scientific, technological and cultural co-operation. The principal effect of declaring this Agreement to be a Community Treaty as so defined is to bring into play, in relation to it, the provisions of section 2 of the European Communities Act 1972 which provides for the implementation of treaties so specified.
1972 c. 68; section 1(2) was amended by the European Union (Accessions) Act 1994 c. 38.
