The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 2(9) and 15(5) of the Local Government Act 1988(1), and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Local Government Act 1988 (Defined Activities) (Exemption) (Rushcliffe Borough Council) Order 1997 and shall come into force on 1st September 1997.
2. The management of sport and leisure facilities shall not be treated as a defined activity so long as it is carried out by the council of the borough of Rushcliffe during the period beginning with 1st September 1997 and ending with 31st March 1998 in the following premises in the borough-
(a)Rushcliffe Arena, Rugby Road, West Bridgford
West Bridgford Community Hall, Church Drive, West Bridgford
West Bridgford Junior School, Exchange Road
Cotgrave Leisure Centre, Woodview, Cotgrave; and
(b)at the following recreation grounds in West Bridgford-
Abbey Park
Adbolton Grove
Alford Road Playing Fields, Alford Road
Boundary Road
Bridgford Park, Bridgford Road
Denton Drive
Gresham Playing Fields, Wilford Lane
Greythorne Drive
The Hook, Holme Rd
Oaktree Close
West Park, Loughborough Road

(This note is not part of the Order)
Under Part I of the Local Government Act 1988 (competition), work falling within certain defined activities may be carried out by local authorities only if specified conditions are fulfilled.
Article 2 of this Order exempts from the requirements of Part I the management of the sports and leisure facilities named in that article by the Rushcliffe Borough Council during the period beginning with 1st September 1997 and ending with 31st March 1998.
