The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on her by Sections 1(5), 43(2) and 69(3) of the Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act 1996(1), hereby makes the following Order:
1.-(1) This Order may be cited as the Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act 1996 (Appointed Day No. 7) Order 1997.
(2) This Order extends to Northern Ireland only.
2. 1st January 1998 is hereby appointed for the purposes of-
(a)Part I of, and
(b)Sections 43 (application of Part IV of the Act) and 69 of,
the Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act 1996.

This Order appoints 1st January 1998 for the purposes of Part I and sections 43 and 69 of the Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act 1996.
The provisions specified in Article 2 of this Order apply-
(a)in the case of Part I (disclosure), in relation to alleged offences into which no criminal investigation has begun before 1st January 1998 (Section 1(3));
(b)in the case of Part IV (rulings), in relation to pre-trial hearings beginning on or after 1st January 1998 (Section 43(2)); and
(c)in the case of Section 69 (proof by written statement), in relation to statements tendered in evidence on or after 1st January 1998.
