(This note is not part of the Regulations)
These Regulations, which come into force on 1st January 1998, amend the Education (Student Loans) Regulations 1997 ("the principal Regulations").
The principal Regulations included a new condition of eligibility for student loans. Subject to some exceptions a student is now required to be settled in the United Kingdom within the meaning of the Immigration Act 1971. The amending Regulations provide that this condition shall not apply to students who began their courses before 1st August 1997, or who from before then and without break have been attending courses for which they have been eligible for loans.
