The Secretary of State for Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 84(1), (2) and 124 of, and paragraph 27(1) of Schedule 9 to, the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984(1), and all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the A127 Trunk Road (Southend Arterial Road, Havering) (50 mph Speed Limit) Order 1997 and shall come into force on 22nd September 1997.
2. No person shall drive any motor vehicle at a speed exceeding 50 miles per hour on the length of road specified in the Schedule to this Order.
3. The 70 miles per hour, 60 miles per hour and 50 miles per hour (Temporary Speed Limit) (Continuation) Order 1978(2) shall be varied so that article 2 shall not apply to the length of road specified in the Schedule to this Order.

That length of the A127 Trunk Road in the London Borough of Havering, known as Southend Arterial Road, which extends from its junction with the Gallows Corner Roundabout (A12) south-eastward for a distance of 2.2 kilometres, to a point in line with the north-western kerbline of Oxford Avenue at its northernmost end.
