The Secretary of State for Transport, with the consent of the Treasury, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 56(1) and (2) of the Finance Act 1973(1) and the Department of Transport (Fees) Order 1988(2), and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations:-
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Passenger and Goods Vehicles (Recording Equipment) (Approval of Fitters and Workshops) (Fees) (Amendment) Regulations 1997 and shall come into force on 3rd March 1997.
2. In regulation 3 of the Passenger and Goods Vehicles (Recording Equipment) (Approval of Fitters and Workshops) (Fees) Regulations 1986(3) for "£240" there shall be substituted "£230" and for "£97.30" there shall be substituted "£93".

These Regulations amend the Passenger and Goods Vehicles (Recording Equipment) (Approval of Fitters and Workshops) (Fees) Regulations 1986 to reduce the fees for the approval of fitters or workshops for the installation or repair of recording equipment (tachographs). These fees were last altered in January 1994.
The fee for the issue of an approval is reduced from £240 to £230 and for the renewal of an approval from £97.30 to £93.
S.I. 1988/643, which was made under section 102 of the Finance (No. 2) Act 1987 (c. 51). The relevant reference in S.I. 1988/643 is Table II of Schedule 1.
