(This note is not part of the Order)
The Order amends the Price Marking Order 1991 ("the 1991 Order"), made under the Prices Act 1974, which implemented Council Directive 79/581/EEC (OJ No. L158, 26.6.79, p.19) ("the 1979 Directive") as amended by Council Directive 88/315/EEC (OJ No. L142, 9.6.88, p.23) and Council Directive 88/314/EEC (OJ No. L142, 9.6.88, p.19) ("the 1988 Directive") on consumer protection in the indication of the prices of foodstuffs and non-food products, respectively. Article 4(2)(c) of the 1991 Order required the indication of the unit price of certain goods pre-packed in pre-established quantities from 7th June 1995 ("the 1995 date"). This Order substitutes the date 7th June 1997 for the 1995 date in anticipation of an amendment to the 1979 and 1988 Directives which is likely to substitute, for the 1995 date, a date at least two years later.
1974 c. 24; section 4 was amended by the Price Commission Act 1977 (c. 33), section 16(1).
