The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, in relation to England, and the Secretary of State, in relation to Wales, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 8(3) and (7) of the Pests Act 1954(1) and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, hereby make the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Spring Traps Approval (Variation) Order 1993 and shall come into force on 1st March 1993.
2. The Spring Traps Approval Order 1975(2) shall be varied by inserting at the end of the Schedule (in which are set out traps of a type and make approved for the purposes of section 8 of the Pests Act 1954) the provisions set out in the Schedule to this Order.

"Kania Trap 2000 manufactured by or under the authority of the C E Kania Corporation, 124-21, 10405 Jasper Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. | The trap shall be used only for the purpose of killing or taking grey squirrels, mink, stoats, weasels, rats, mice or other small ground vermin, and set in artificial tunnels constructed for the purpose." |

By virtue of section 8 of the Pests Act 1954 it is an offence to use in England and Wales for the purposes of killing or taking animals a spring trap other than one approved by an Order of the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and the Secretary of State.
This Order adds the Kania Trap 2000 to those already approved in the Spring Traps Approval Order 1975 and specifies the animals for which and the circumstances in which it may be used.
1954 c. 68. The functions of the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food under the Act were, in relation to Wales, transferred to the Secretary of State by S.I. 1978/272, article 2(1).
