1. The lengths of the trunk road described in the Schedule to this order and shown by broad striped hatching on the deposited plan shall cease to be trunk road and shall be classified as principal road as from the date on which the Secretary of State notifies the County Councils of Hampshire and West Sussex that the new trunk road is open for through traffic. The Hampshire County Council shall become the highway authority for the lengths of road given the reference letters A and C in that Schedule; the West Sussex County Council shall become the highway authority for the length of road given the reference letter B in that Schedule.
2. In this Order:-
(1) all measurements of distance are measured along the route of the relevant highway;
(2) (i) "the deposited plan" means the plan numbered CSE 206/6B/26/04 marked "The London-Portsmouth Trunk Road A3 (Liphook-Petersfield Section Detrunking) Order 1990" signed by authority of the Secretary of State and deposited at the Department of Transport, Romney House, 43 Marsham Street, London SW1P 3PY.
(ii)"the new trunk road" means the highway to be provided by the Secretary of State in pursuance of the London-Portsmouth Trunk Road A3 (Liphook-Ham Barn Section) (Part 1) Order 1988 (3), the London-Portsmouth Trunk Road A3 (Liphook-Ham Barn Section) (Part 2: Headley Road to Queens Road) Order 1990 (4), and the London-Portsmouth Trunk Road A3 (Ham Barn-Petersfield Section) Order 1987 (5);
(iii)"principal road" as a classification for a highway, means that the highway is a principal road for the purposes of enactments and instruments which refer to highways classified as principal roads and is also classified for the purpose of every other enactment and instrument which refers to highways classified by the Secretary of State; and
(iv)"the trunk road"
means the London-Portsmouth Trunk Road (A3).
3. This Order shall come into force on 23rd May 1990 and may be cited as the London-Portsmouth Trunk Road A3 (Liphook-Petersfield Section Detrunking) Order 1990.

From a point A on the trunk road 600 metres south west of its junction with Church Road, Bramshott to the County Boundary situated at a point on the trunk road 260 metres south west of its crossing beneath the London-Portsmouth Railway line at Wheatsheaf Common, a distance of 2.36 kilometres in the District of East Hampshire.
From the County Boundary situated at a point B on the trunk road 260 metres south west of its crossing beneath the London-Portsmouth Railway line at Wheatsheaf Common, to the County Boundary situated at a point on the trunk road 30 metres north east of its junction with the B3006 Hill Brow Road at Hill Brow, a distance of 6.22 kilometres in the District of Chichester.
From the County Boundary situated at a point C on the trunk road 30 metres north east of its junction with the B3006 Hill Brow Road at Hill Brow to a point on the trunk road 270 metres south west of its junction with Ramsdean Lane, Weston; and including the sections of the trunk road in Petersfield known as Tor Way, which forms the southbound carriageway and parts of College Street and Station Road, which form the northbound carriageway, a total distance of 9.02 kilometres in the Dristrict of East Hampshire.
