Whereas the combined police authority established by the Thames Valley Police Amalgamation Scheme 1968 (set out in the Appendix to the Thames Valley Police (Amalgamation) Order 1968(1)) has, under sections 21 and 22 of the Police Act 1964(2), submitted to me the Scheme set out in the Appendix to this Order for the amendment of the said Scheme of 1968:
Now, therefore, in exercise of the power conferred on me by the said sections, I, by this Order, approve the Scheme set out in the Appendix to this Order.
This Order may be cited as the Thames Valley Police (Amalgamation) (Amendment) Order 1990.

1. This Scheme may be cited as the Thames Valley Police Amalgamation (Amendment) Scheme 1990 and shall come into force on 1st April 1990.
2. For paragraph 3(2) and (3) of Schedule 2 to the Thames Valley Police Amalgamation Scheme 1968 there shall be substituted the following sub-paragraphs-
"(2) In this Schedule the expression "the appropriate proportion" means, in respect of each financial year and in the case of each constituent council, the proportion which the population of the constituent area in question bears to the population of the combined police area.
(3) With effect from 1st April 1995, or such earlier date as may be determined by resolution of the Thames Valley Police Authority, the population of an area for the purposes of sub-paragraph (2) above shall be the "relevant population" calculated in accordance with section 69(7) of the Local Government Finance Act 1988(3) and regulations made thereunder.
(4) With effect from 1st April 1990, until sub-paragraph (3) above comes into effect, the population of an area shall be that population as estimated by the Registrar General for England and Wales. The estimate of population to be used in respect of each financial year shall be the latest available at the time the Authority submitted its original estimate of expenditure for that year in accordance with paragraph 1(4) of this Schedule.".

This Order contains the Secretary of State's approval to a Scheme, submitted to him under the Police Act 1964, further amending the provisions of the Thames Valley Police Amalgamation Scheme 1968 relating to the apportionment of the expenses of the combined police authority between the constituent councils, with effect from 1st April 1990.
