Whereas in pursuance of section 7 of the Opticians Act 1958(1) the General Optical Council have made the Registration and Enrolment (Amendment) Rules 1990 as set out in the Schedule to this Order:
And whereas by subsection (5) of the said section such rules shall not come into force until approved by Order of the Privy Council;
Now, therefore, Their Lordships, having taken the said rules into consideration, are hereby pleased to approve the same.
This Order may be cited as the General Optical Council (Registration and Enrolment (Amendment) Rules) Order of Council 1990.

In pursuance of their powers under section 7 of the Opticians Act 1958 the General Optical Council hereby make the following rules:
1. These rules may be cited as the Registration and Enrolment (Amendment) Rules, 1990.
2. The Registration and Enrolment Rules 1976 scheduled to the General Optical Council (Registration and Enrolment Rules) Order of Council 1977(2) shall be further amended in the Appendix to the Rules by replacing the figures £30, £16 and £10, on each occasion where they appear, by the figures £35, £20 and £12, respectively.
3. These rules shall come into operation on the 1st day of April 1990 and shall apply to applications for registration, enrolment, retention, restoration and transfer to take effect on or after the 1st day of April 1990 whether made before, on or after that date.

The rules approved by this Order increase with effect from 1st April 1990, the fees payable to the General Optical Council by ophthalmic and dispensing opticians and bodies corporate carrying on business as opticians for registration, enrolment, retention, restoration and transfer. The fees were last fixed in 1987, and the average order of increase is 20%.
