The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the Secretary of State for Scotland and the Secretary of State for Wales, acting jointly, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by sections 1 and 86(1) of the Animal Health Act 1981(1) and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, hereby make the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Movement of Animals (Records) (Amendment) Order 1990 and shall come into force on 15th October 1990.
2. The Movement of Animals (Records) Order 1960(2) shall be amended by substituting for paragraph (2) of article 4 the following paragraph-“
"(2) Every record required to be made by a person under this Order shall be retained by him for-“
(a)in the case of a record relating to a bovine animal, a period of 10 years;
(b)in the case of a record relating to a deer, a period of 3 years; or
(c)in the case of a record relating to any other animal, a period of 12 months
from the date of the completion of the movement or, as the case may be, of the sale of any deer to which such record relates.".
3. Notwithstanding the provisions of the Movement of Animals (Records) Order 1960 prior to the amendment contained in this Order, any entry made in a record in respect of a bovine animal required to be kept by a person by that Order shall, if made at any time within the period of 3 years ending immediately before the coming into force of this Order, be retained by him for a period of 10 years from the making of the entry and the provisions of paragraph (3) of article 4 of that Order, relating to the production, inspection and copying of entries, shall apply to that entry during that period of 10 years.

This Order further amends the Movement of Animals (Records) Order 1960. It provides that movement records relating to bovine animals shall be kept for ten years instead of three years which was previously the case (article 2).
1981 c. 22; section 86(1) contains a definition of "the Ministers" relevant to the exercise of the statutory powers under which this Order is made.
