The Lord Chancellor, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 287(1) of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988(1), hereby makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Patents County Court (Designation and Jurisdiction) Order 1990 and shall come into force on 3rd September 1990.
2. The Edmonton County Court is hereby designated as a patents county court.
3. As a patents county court, the Edmonton County Court shall have jurisdiction, subject to article 4 below, to hear and determine any action or matter relating to patents or designs over which the High Court would have jurisdiction, together with any claims or matters ancillary thereto or arising therefrom.
4. The jurisdiction conferred by article 3 above shall not include jurisdiction to hear appeals from the comptroller.

This Order designates the Edmonton County Court as a patents county court and confers on it jurisdiction to hear and determine proceedings relating to patents or designs (and matters ancillary thereto). The Edmonton County Court will be the first patents county court in England Wales and the commencement date of this Order coincides with the commencement of Part VI of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, which makes provision for the first time for designated county courts to exercise jurisdiction in proceedings relating to patents on designs.
