The Secretary of State, in exercise of powers conferred on him by sections 25(1), (2) and (5), 105 and 108(1) of the National Health Service (Scotland) Act 1978( (1)) and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations:
1. These Regulations may be cited as the National Health Service (General Dental Services) (Scotland) Amendment Regulations 1989 and shall come into force on 1st May 1989.
2. Regulation 36 of the National Health Service (General Dental Services) (Scotland) Regulations 1974( (2)) (amount and time of payments in consequence of suspension) shall be amended as follows:-
(a)in paragraph (1)(a)(i) for "£1,935" there shall be substituted "£2,243" ;
(b)in paragraph (1)(a)(ii) for "£967" there shall be substituted "£1,121" ;
(c)in paragraph (1)(b)(i) for "£967" there shall be substituted "£1,121" ;
(d)in paragraph (1)(b)(ii) for "£1,935" there shall be substituted "£2,243" ; and
(e)in paragraph (2) for "£107,103" in both places where it occurs there shall be substituted "£117,689" .

These Regulations amend the National Health Service (General Dental Services) (Scotland) Regulations 1974, which provide for the arrangements under which dentists provide general dental services under the National Health Service in Scotland.
These Regulations increase the amounts of and the amounts used in calculating payments to dentists during periods when their registration under the Dentists Act 1984 (c. 24) is suspended by an interim suspension order or by a direction or order of the Health Committee.
1978 c. 29; section 25(2) was amended by S.I. 1981/432; section 25(5) was added by section 16(a) of the Health and Social Services and Social Security Adjudications Act 1983 (c. 41) ( "the 1983 Act"); section 105, which was amended by the Health Services Act 1980 (c. 53), Schedule 6, paragraph 5 and Schedule 7, paragraph 24 and by the 1983 Act, Schedule 9, contains provisions relevant to the making of Regulations. Section 108(1) contains definitions of "prescribed" and "regulations" relevant to the exercise of the statutory powers under which these Regulations are made.
