In exercise of the powers conferred by section 214(2)(c) and (3) of the Education Reform Act 1988(1) the Secretary of State for Education and Science hereby makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Education (Recognised Awards) (Amendment) Order 1989 and shall come into force on 14th April 1989.
2. At the end of the Schedule to the Education (Recognised Awards) Order 1988(2) there shall be inserted the following award-“
"Degree of Barrister-at-LawBenchers of the Honorable Society of the Inn of Court of Northern Ireland".

This Order adds the Degree of Barrister-at-Law awarded by the Benchers of the Honorable Society of the Inn of Court of Northern Ireland to the list of awards contained in the Education (Recognised Awards) Order 1988. That Order lists particular awards granted by certain persons which are recognised awards for the purposes of section 214 of the Education Reform Act 1988. Recognised awards are not awards of the kind referred to in section 214(1), which makes it an offence to grant, offer to grant, or issue any invitation relating to certain unrecognised degrees and awards.
