In exercise of the powers conferred by section 2 of the Wireless Telegraphy Act 1949(1), as enacted, and as extended by the Wireless Telegraphy (Channel Islands) Order 1952(2) and the Wireless Telegraphy (Isle of Man) Order 1952(3), and now vested in me(4), I hereby, with the consent of the Treasury, make the following Regulations:
1.-(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Wireless Telegraphy (Broadcast Licence Charges and Exemption) (Amendment No. 2) Regulations 1989 and shall come into force on 1st April 1989.
(2) The Wireless Telegraphy (Broadcast Licence Charges and Exemption) (Amendment) Regulations 1988(5) are hereby revoked.
2. The Wireless Telegraphy (Broadcast Licence Charges and Exemption) Regulations 1984(6) shall be amended as follows:
(a)in regulation 6, for "£1.50" there shall be substituted "£2";
(b)in Schedule 3 -“
(i)for "£21" in each place where it occurs there shall be substituted "£22",
(ii)for "£62.50" in each place where it occurs there shall be substituted "£66"(7), and
(iii)for "£1.50" in each place where it occurs there shall be substituted "£2.50";
(c)in Schedule 4 -“
(i)for "£21" there shall be substituted "£22", and
(ii)for "£62.50" there shall be substituted "£66"(7); and
(d)in Schedule 5(8) -“
(i)for "£31.24" there shall be substituted "£33.00",
(ii)for "£15.62" there shall be substituted "£16.50", and
(iii)for "£16.87" in each place where it occurs there shall be substituted "£17.75".

These Regulations raise the amount of the basic fee for television licences from £21 to £22 in the case of monochrome and from £62.50 to £66 in the case of colour. They also increase the fees for other types of television licence. The fee for a duplicate licence is raised from £1.50 to £2 and that for the dealer demonstration licence from £1.50 to £2.50. In the case of instalment licences the issue fee for the Standard Instalment Licence is increased from £31.24 to £33 with instalment fees raised from £15.62 to £16.50. For the Premium Instalment Licence the issue and instalment fees of £16.87 are both increased to £17.75.
