The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 10(3)(a) to (c) of the Employment Act 1989(1) and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:-“
1. This Order may be cited as the Employment Act 1989 (Amendments and Revocations) Order 1989, and shall come into force on 16th January 1990.
2.-(1) The Regulations specified in columns 1 and 2 of Part 1 of the Schedule to this Order are amended to the extent set out in column 3 of that Schedule; and, for the purposes of the Regulations mentioned in this paragraph, the expression "school-leaving age" has the meaning-“
(a)in relation to England and Wales, in section 10(6)(a) of the Employment Act 1989; and
(b)in relation to Scotland, in section 10(6)(b) of that Act.
(2) The Orders and Regulations specified in columns 1 and 2 of Part II of the Schedule to this Order are revoked to the extent set out in column 3 of that Schedule.
3. This Order shall not apply to Northern Ireland.

This Order amends and revokes various instruments. The amendments set out in Part 1 of the Schedule to this Order are made so that the provisions in that Part which are framed by reference to a specified age expressed as a number of years are instead framed by reference to school-leaving age.
The revocations set out in Part II of the said Schedule are made in order to remove restrictions relating to the employment of young persons between school-leaving age and 18 years of age.
