This note is not part of the Order)
This Order amends provisions of the Firearms (Amendment) Act 1988 (Commencement No.2) Order 1989 relating to section 20 of the Firearms (Amendment) Act 1988 which amends section 6 of the Firearms Act 1968 (c. 27) in respect of the Secretary of State's power to make an order controlling movements of firearms and ammunition between Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The effect of this Order is twofold. First section 20 of the 1988 Act will not come fully into force on 1st October 1989 as provided by the earlier commencement order. Secondly, insofar as section 20 is already in force for the purpose of enabling the Secretary of State to make an order, any such order will, as a consequence, come into force not on 1st October 1989 but on the date on which section 20 comes into force for all other purposes.50p net
