In pursuance of section 7 of the Poisons Act 1972(1) and on the recommendation of the Poisons Board, I hereby make the following Rules:-“
1. These Rules may be cited as the Poisons (Amendment) Rules 1989 and shall come into force on 1st March 1989.
2.-(1) The Poisons Rules 1982(2) shall be amended in accordance with the following provisions of this Rule.
(2) In the proviso to rule 6(3), for the words "twenty-four" there shall be substituted the words "seventy-two".
(3) Rule 23 shall be omitted.

These Rules amend with effect from 1st March 1989 the Poisons Rules 1982 by increasing from twenty-four to seventy-two hours the period within which a signed order must be presented by the purchaser of a poison supplied in an emergency and by removing the only remaining requirement relating to transport (which is replaced as from the same date by the Road Traffic (Carriage of Dangerous Substances in Packages etc) (Amendment) Regulations 1988 (S.I. 1989/105)).
