The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 47(5) of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988(1), hereby makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Copyright (Material Open to Public Inspection) (International Organisations) Order 1989 and shall come into force on 1st August 1989.
2. Subsections (1) to (3) of section 47 of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 apply, subject to the modifications set out in article 3 below, to material made open to public inspection by-“
(a)the European Patent Office under the Convention on the Grant of European Patents(2); and
(b)the World Intellectual Property Organisation under the Patent Co-operation Treaty(3);
as they apply in relation to material open to public inspection pursuant to a statutory requirement or to a statutory register.
3. Subsections (1) to (3) of the said section 47 shall be modified by the substitution for the words "the appropriate person", in each place where they occur, of the words "the Comptroller-General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks".

Subsections (1) to (3) of section 47 of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 provide exceptions to copyright in the case of material which is open to public inspection pursuant to a statutory requirement or which is on a statutory register. This Order extends the exceptions to material made open to public inspection by the European Patent Office under the European Patent Convention and by the World Intellectual Property Organisation under the Patent Co-operation Treaty.
