(This note is not part of the Order)
The Local Government Act 1985 abolished the Greater London Council and metropolitan county councils. The Act consequently provides for the replacement in their areas of the existing structure and local development plans under town and country planning legislation by "unitary development plans". This Order brings the provisions of the 1985 Act relating to unitary development plans into force in the county of West Yorkshire other than the metropolitan district of Bradford on 25th September 1989.
