In exercise of the powers conferred on the Secretary of State by sections 27(1)(a) and 35(4) of the Education Act 1980(1), I hereby make the following Regulations:-
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Education (Teachers) (Amendment) Regulations 1988 and shall come into force on 18th April 1988.
2. In sub-paragraph (a)(ii) of paragraph 2 of Schedule 5 to the Education (Teachers) Regulations 1982(2) there shall be substituted for the words "is approved" the words "was at the time when the person completed it approved".

(This note is not part of the Regulations)
These Regulations amend paragraph 2 of Schedule 5 to the Education (Teachers) Regulations 1982. This Schedule sets out the circumstances in which a person shall be qualified to be employed as a teacher at a maintained or special school. These circumstances include, amongst others, satisfying the Secretary of State that he is a person who has successfully completed one of the courses listed in paragraph 2(a) which is approved as a course for the initial training of teachers in schools. The amendment changes this requirement to make it clear that the course must have been so approved at the time when the person completed it.
