CHANGES IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREAS

Whereas under section 17(1) of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973((1)) the Local Government Boundary Commission for Scotland on 11th August 1987 submitted to the Secretary of State a report on a review conducted under section 14(2) of that Act in which they made proposals for the transfer of certain areas between City of Glasgow District and Strathkelvin District and in which they also made proposals for changes in electoral arrangements consequential on those changes in local government areas;
Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 17(2) of the said Act, and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, the Secretary of State hereby makes the following Order to give effect to the proposals of the Local Government Boundary Commission for Scotland as submitted to him:
1. This Order may be cited as the City of Glasgow and Strathkelvin Districts (Easter Balmuildy Farm and Laigh Kenmure Farm) Boundaries Amendment Order 1988, and shall come into force on 1st April 1988.
2. In this Order- "the 1977 Regulations" means that Local Government Area Changes (Scotland) Regulations 1977((2)); and
"boundary map" means the map prepared by the Scottish Office, marked "The City of Glasgow and Strathkelvin Districts (Easter Balmuildy Farm and Laigh Kenmure Farm) Boundaries Amendment Order 1988 Map" and deposited in accordance with regulation 3 of the 1977 Regulations; and, in the Schedule to this Order, any reference to a boundary of a district is a reference to a boundary existing immediately before the commencement of this Order.
3. Save insofar as they can have no application in relation to the area changes effected by this Order, the provisions of the 1977 Regulations shall apply in relation thereto for the purposes of, or in consequence of, this Order.
4.-(1) Those parts of Strathkelvin District described as Area A and Area B in Part I of the Schedule to this Order, and shown delineated, hatched and marked "Area A" and "Area B" on the boundary map, shall be transferred to City of Glasgow District.
(2) That part of City of Glasgow District described as Area C in Part II of the Schedule to this Order, and shown delineated, hatched and marked "Area C" on the boundary map, shall be transferred to Strathkelvin District.
5.-(1) Area A and Area B described in Part I of the Schedule to this Order (being the areas transferred by article 4(1) of this Order)- (a) shall cease to form part of electoral division 47 (Bishopbriggs) of Strathclyde Region((3)) and of ward 6 (Kenmure and Baldernock) of Strathkelvin District((4)); and
(b)shall form part of electoral division 15 (Milton and Ruchill) of Strathclyde Region and of ward 13 (Milton) of City of Glasgow District((5)).
(2) Area C described in Part II of the Schedule to this Order (being the area transferred by article 4(2) of this Order)-
(a)shall cease to form part of electoral division 15 (Milton and Ruchill) in Strathclyde Region and of ward 13 (Milton) in City of Glasgow District; and
(b)shall form part of electoral division 47 (Bishopbriggs) of Strathclyde Region and of ward 6 (Kenmure and Baldernock) of Strathkelvin District.

The area bounded by a line commencing on the district boundary at a point on the River Kelvin grid reference NS 5831 7200, thence southeastwards by field boundary to a point on the Balmuildy Road grid reference NS 5865 7181, thence southwestwards along Balmuildy Road on the existing district boundary, thence northwestwards and generally northeastwards along that district boundary to the point of commencement.
The area bounded by a line commencing on the district boundary at a point grid reference NS 6014 6988, thence northeastwards and northwards by field boundary to a point on the south side of the access to Laigh Kenmure Farm grid reference NS 6022 7023, thence westwards, southwards and southwestwards along the south side of that access to rejoin the district boundary, thence southeastwards, thence northeastwards along that district boundary to the point of commencement.
The area bounded by a line commencing on the district boundary at a point at the centre of the Forth and Clyde Canal grid reference NS 5938 7094, thence southwestwards along the centre line of the canal to a point grid reference NS 5925 7082, thence southeastwards in a straight line to a point on the western boundary of Bishopbriggs Golf Course grid reference NS 5928 7079, thence southeastwards, eastwards, southwards and again southeastwards by field boundary to a point grid reference NS 5954 7051, thence southwestwards in a straight line to a point grid reference NS 5950 7041, thence southeastwards by field boundary to a point grid reference NS 5963 7011, thence generally northeastwards by field boundary and along the south side of the access from Laigh Kenmure Farm to rejoin the district boundary, thence northwestwards along that district boundary to the point of commencement.

This Order transfers areas of approximately 83.5 acres at Easter Balmuildy Farm and Laigh Kenmure Farm between City of Glasgow District and Strathkelvin District and makes consequential changes to electoral arrangements.
The map annexed to and forming part of this note gives a general guide to the areas affected by this Order as from 1st April 1988.
Copies of the detailed boundary map defined in article 2 of this Order may be inspected at the offices of any of the local authorities referred to in this Order, and may be inspected at or purchased from the Scottish Development Department's Map Library, New St Andrew's House, St James Centre, Edinburgh, EH1 3SZ.
S.I. 1977/8
The electoral divisions of Strathclyde Region were constituted by S.I. 1979/673, to which there are amendments not relevant to this Order.
The wards of Strathkelvin District were constituted by S.I. 1983/1489, to which there are amendments not relevant to this Order.
The wards of City of Glasgow District were constituted by S.I. 1981/620, to which there are amendments not relevant to this Order.
