These Regulations amend regulation 10 of the Education (Schools and Further Education) Regulations 1981, which relates to the duration of the school year and day. They provide that where, in the academic years 1988/89 and 1989/90 but before 1st January 1990 a school session is devoted to the training of teachers at the school for the introduction of the National Curriculum (as defined in section 2(1)(6) of the Education Reform Act 1988 (c. 40)), it shall be treated for the purposes of the regulations as a session on which the school has met. The requirement in regulation 10(3) as to minimum hours of secular instruction per day is disapplied to the extent that such sessions of training take place.
These provisions apply in relation to a maximum of four sessions.
