Whereas in pursuance of section 11 of the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966(1) the Council of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons have made the Veterinary Surgeons and Veterinary Practitioners Registration (Amendment) Regulations 1988 set out in the Schedule to this Order:
Now, therefore, Their Lordships, having taken the said Regulations into consideration, are hereby pleased, in exercise of the power conferred on Them by section 25(1) of the said Act, to approve the same.
This Order may be cited as the Veterinary Surgeons and Veterinary Practitioners (Registration)(Amendment) Regulations Order of Council 1988.

The Council of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, in exercise of their powers under section 11 of the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966, hereby make the following Regulations -
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Veterinary Surgeons and Veterinary Practitioners Registration (Amendment) Regulations 1988.
2. The Veterinary Surgeons and Veterinary Practitioners Registration Regulations 1967(2), as amended, shall be further amended by the deletion of regulation 24 and the substitution of the following therefor
"24. A veterinary surgeon who resides within the Republic of Ireland shall pay no retention fee to the Council unless he -
(a)is a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons; and
(b)has retained his right to vote in Council elections, pursuant to the provisions of the Veterinary Surgeons (Agreement with the Republic of Ireland) Order 1988 (S.I. 1988/784.".
PURSUANT to a resolution passed at a Meeting of the Council of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons on the 9th day of June 1988, the Common Seal of the said Royal College was affixed hereto on the said 9th day of June 1988 in the presence of:-

The Regulations approved by this Order further amend the Veterinary Surgeons and Veterinary Practitioners Registration Regulations 1967 to take account of the position, under the 1988 Agreement with the Republic of Ireland (scheduled to S.I. 1988/784), of veterinary surgeons residing in the Republic, and to remove provisions rendered obsolete by professional mobility within the European Economic Community.
