1. These Regulations may be cited as the Recovery Vehicles (Prescribed Purposes) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1987 and shall come into force on 1st January 1988.
2. The purposes specified in the Schedule to these Regulations are hereby prescribed for the purposes of paragraph 8 of Part I of Schedule 3 to the Vehicles (Excise) Act (Northern Ireland) 1972.

Regulation 2
1. Repairing a disabled vehicle at the place where it became disabled or to which it has been moved in the interests of safety after becoming disabled.
2. Drawing or carrying one trailer if that trailer was immediately before a vehicle became disabled, being drawn or carried by the disabled vehicle.

These Regulations prescribe, in regulation 2 and the Schedule, two purposes for which recovery vehicles may be used - in addition to the recovery or removal of disabled vehicles - without ceasing to be recovery vehicles for the purposes of paragraph 8 of Part I of Schedule 3 to the Vehicles (Excise) Act (Northern Ireland) 1972, as added by the Finance Act 1987, Schedule 1, Part II.
