1. The lengths of trunk road described in the Schedule to this Order and shown by broad striped hatching on the deposited plan shall cease to be trunk road as from the date on which the Secretary of State notifies the County Council of Somerset that the new trunk roads are open for through traffic. The length given the reference letter "A" on the deposited plan shall be classified as a principal road as from that date.
2. In this Order-“
(1) all measurements of distance are measured along the route of the relevant highway;
(2) (i) "the deposited plan" | means the plan contained in the plan folio numbered HA10/2 SWM 40 marked "The London-“Penzance Trunk Road A303 (Ilchester-“South Petherton and Slip Roads) (Detrunking) Order 1987" signed by authority of the Secretary of State and deposited at the Department of Transport, Romney House, 43 Marsham Street, London SW1P 3PY; |
(ii)"the new trunk roads" | means the trunk roads which are being constructed by the Secretary of State in pursuance of "The London-“Penzance Trunk Road A303 (Ilchester-“ South Petherton and Slip Roads) Order 1987".(3); |
(iii)"principal road" | as a classification for a highway, means that the highway is a principal road for the purposes of enactments and instruments which refer to highways classified as principal roads and is also classified for the purpose of every other enactment and instrument which refers to highways classified by the Secretary of State. |
3. This Order shall come into force on 9th October 1987 and may be cited as the London-“Penzance Trunk Road A303 (Ilchester-“South Petherton and Slip Roads) (Detrunking) Order 1987.

The lengths of trunk road ceasing to be trunk road are those lengths of the London-“Penzance Trunk Road (A303) which are situated in the vicinities of Prophets Lane, Percombe Hill and Durnfield in the District of South Somerset, in the County of Somerset, and are as follows-“
1. The length labelled "A" on the deposited plan from a point 8 metres south west of the centre line of the existing Trunk Road/B3165 junction at Prophets Lane for a distance of 460 metres to a point 10 metres north-east of the centreline of the existing Trunk Road/B3165 junction at Ringwell Hill.
2. The length labelled "B" on the deposited plan from a point 406 metres northeast of the centreline of the existing Trunk Road/B3165 junction at Ringwell Hill for a distance of 333 metres to a point 89 metres southwest of the eastern boundary of OS Plot No. 6372 containing the property known as Percombe House.
3. The length labelled "C" on the deposited plan from a point 293 metres northeast of the centreline of the existing Trunk Road/Yeovil Road C139(N) junction at Tintinhull Forts, for a distance of 306 metres to a point 246 metres southwest of the centreline of the existing access to Tailes Farm.
