Whereas in pursuance of a resolution of 19th February 1987 the Council of the Borough of Oadby and Wigston have, under section 7(4)(a) of the Local Government Act 1972(1), requested me to provide for a system of whole council elections to the Council;
Now, therefore, in exercise of the power conferred upon me by sections 7(6) and 67 of that Act, I hereby make the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Borough of Oadby and Wigston (Electoral Arrangements) Order 1987 and shall come into force one month after the day on which it is made.
2.-(1) The ordinary elections of councillors for all the wards of the Borough of Oadby and Wigston shall take place simultaneously in 1991 and every fourth year thereafter.
(2) All the councillors of that Borough shall retire together in 1991 on the fourth day after the ordinary day of election and the newly elected councillors shall come into office on the day on which their predecessors retire.
