The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food as respects England and the Secretary of State as respects Wales, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 20(1) of the Hill Farming Act 1946(1) and now vested in them(2), and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, hereby make the following Regulations:-
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Heather and Grass etc. (Burning) (Amendment) Regulations 1987 and shall come into force on 14th August 1987.
2. The Heather and Grass etc. (Burning) Regulations 1986(3) (hereinafter referred to as "the principal Regulations") shall be amended in accordance with the following provisions.
3. In regulation 2(1) of the principal Regulations (interpretation) there shall be inserted before the definition of "the Minister" the following definition:-
""London Regional Transport" means London Regional Transport or any body corporate which is its subsidiary within the meaning of section 68 of the London Regional Transport Act 1984(4);".
4. For the words "London Transport Executive", wherever they appear in the principal Regulations, there shall be substituted the words "London Regional Transport".
5. In regulation 5(2)(c) of the principal Regulations (regulation of burning during any period of the year), there shall be substituted for the reference to "72 hours" a reference to "7 days".

These Regulations amend the Heather and Grass etc. (Burning) Regulations 1986 ("the principal Regulations") in two respects:-
(1) they extend from 72 hours to 7 days the maximum period for giving written notice of intention to burn heather, grass etc. to all persons with an interest in the land on which the burning is to take place and persons in charge of adjacent land (regulation 5);
(2) they amend references in the principal Regulations to the London Transport Executive following the replacement of that body by London Regional Transport under the London Regional Transport Act 1984(5) (regulations 3 and 4).
